January 27, 1928—
• A mass meeting of 60 McGregor businessmen met for a re-organizational meeting of the McGregor Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was led by Geo. W. England. He stated McGregor was right now on a forward move and the city needed an organization to foster growth and improvements. A chamber of Commerce was absolutely necessary. Officiers elected were J.B. Ford, President; Charles Howard, Vice President; A.C. Amsler, Treasurer. Directors included Geeorge England, E.R. Luedtke, Charles B. Hall, H.T. Grantham, Glenn Crain and J.A. Burt.
January 28, 1938—
• McGregor was in line to have a sewerage system throughout the business and residential sections of the city. Information was learned at a mass meeting of McGregor citizens. The State Health Department representative said that under the government WPA projects, cities like McGregor could have improvements with the government furnishing the labor.
• Chamber of Commerce officers for 1938 were John D. Mann, President; O.T. McGinley, Vice President; Parke D. Evers, Secretary/Treasurer. Directors were G.W. Lee, Autry Mize, George W. Vowel, R.A. Bailey, Chas. B. Hall, Tom J. Freeman, L.B. Fason, Marshal Crouch, L.C. Vowel and Walter Mize.
January 23, 1948—
• Work by the McGregor Chamber of Commerce paid off again for McGregor. A branch plant of Norwood Manufacturing Co. of Chicago took over load line one at the Bluebonnet Ordnance Plant. This concern manufactured household furniture and employed 200 workers.
• In a checkup with county auditor, Justice of the Peace B.J. Allen turned over $718.00 to the county collected in his office in 1947 from fines and traffic violations.
• A.P. Cherry was chairman of the March of Dimes campaign.
January 24, 1958—
• Making all district team for the Bulldogs were Jerry Ridling, Jerry Cain, Johnny Pitts, Bill Kennerly and Doug Lippe. Ridling was one of the only two players who were unanimous choices.
• Deadline was January 31st to pay local poll tax. It could be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce for $1.75.
• McGregor seniors held a chili supper to raise funds for the senior trip. The goal was to raise $2,000 during the year. Tickets for the chili supper were 50 cents a plate.
• First National Bank of McGregor kept the same officers, re-electing Guy Draper, Ernie Esch, G.W. Lee, A.C. Amsler, John D. Mann and Stan McAfee.
• Mrs. Parke D. Evers was honored with a stork shower given by Mrs. Henry Smith, Mrs. Ed Leache, Mrs. Raymond Keltner and Mrs. Thomas Mooney.
• Joan Hudson received second place in the Area VIII FHA Sweetheart contest.
January 26, 1968—
• Farmers enjoyed the wettest January in McGregor’s history. The government gauge at the McGregor Milling and Grain measured 5.28 inches, compared to the average rainfall of 2.27 for the previous 44 years.
• McAx Corporation was on the threshold of getting its porcelain-on-steel houses through government Model Cities and Urban Renewal programs.
• Mr. and Mrs. Fred Winkler celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
• A 1968 Camero Sports Coupe sold for $2,460 at Woody Jackson Chevrolet.
• Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hoffman opened their Dixie Discount Center at the intersection of Highway 84 and 317.
• McGregor PTA honored the Bulldog football team, band and Bow Wows with a banquet. Speaker was Thomas E. Turner, asst. to Baylor President Abner McCall.
January 26, 1978—
• Top news was the location of Texas Van Corporation to McGregor. The conversion plant leased a 20,000 sq. ft. building on the south end of Morris, Keltner, Paschall property and expected to start production in 90 days. It was to employ a minimum of 30 people.
• McGregor school trustees adopted six programs to improve education presented by Supt. Harold Horne: 1) Initiate math leveling program at elementary; 2) Initiate summer enrichment program for junior high science and math; 3) Initiate reading for enjoyment program; 4) Develop audio-tutorial lab; 5) Expand continuing education and 6) Initiate grounds beautification at junior high. Board trustee terms expiring were Donald Henager and Dick Fox.
• Weather was snowy and cold.
• Dennis Witte and Burt Vandiver were elected directors for First National Bank of McGregor.
• Rotarians sold pancakes to a large crowd, despite the cold, wet weather.
January 28, 1988—
• McGregor ISD received $11,111.30—another dividend of the football post season play. It was the Bulldog’s share of the semi-final contest with Southlake Carroll at Bedford. McGregor’s share of the quarterfinal game with La Vega in Baylor Stadium was $17,127.40.
• Bonnie Mullens became the new president of MOCEMS. Other officers were Cindy King, Vice President; Frances Hudson, Secretary and Dean Elliott, Treasurer.
• DECA students at McGregor High School competing in Dallas were Angie Bankhead, Kristi Owen and Shona Allison.
January 29, 1998—
• Frances Hudson received the Golden Apple Award from Channel 10 KWTX-TV. Mrs. Hudson had been teaching piano in McGregor since 1934 and had taught thousands of students. (She is still teaching today, 10 years later, making her years of teaching to 74.
• Chamber of Commerce officers for 1998 were Joe Raibourn, Chairman of the Board; Ottis Foster, Chairman elect; Bonnie Mullens, Recording Secretary and Debbie Grady, Treasurer.
• McGregor ISD was the first school district in the state to have direct internet connenction following the installation of a VSAT satellite at the administration building.
• Ninety-four year old Maggie King, a native of Coryell County, was The Mirror’s featured Cook of the Week. One of her recipes was for biscuits, handed down to her from her mother. She made these biscuits for a couple staying down by the river from her house. The couple turned out to be Bonnie and Clyde. King had been subscribing to The Mirror for 70 years.
• Gary Jenkins was elected President of the Bulldog Booster Club at the re-organizational meeting. Other officers were John Klander, Debbie Pollei, Bea Kruse and Kyle Paschall.
McGregor High School had its first Power Lifting Team. Team members were Dustin Englutt, Chris Jones, Heath Tullous, Michael Kruse, Ignacios Salas, Aric Hutchinson, Robbie Anderson, Brion Herrings, Jacey Guerrero, Lyndsey Shannon, Brandi Michaelwicz, Lacey Harris and Jennifer Tippit.
